Mission and Divisions
National Sun Yat-Sen University established the Research Center for Humanity Innovation and Social Practice in 2014. Teachers and students from the School of Liberal Arts, School of Management, and School of Social Science formed interdisciplinary teams and entered neighboring communities to help local residents and civic groups. The center was upgraded to a Tier 1 department in 2018 and renamed the NSYSU Social Engagement Center. The center is now led by President Ying-Yao Cheng with the help of an executive director and deputy executive director. The center is divided into three divisions based on affairs, namely social practice, education research, and administrative development. The center has also established an advisory committee and appointed several social practice researchers to integrate social engagement and academia, consolidate social practice projects, and promote the development of Kaohsiung and Pingtung.
Short-term objectives:
- Establish a resource and achievement exchange platform
- Reference bibliographic databases and literature collections
- Organize social practice lectures and talks
- Organize an international conference on social practice
- Secure social practice projects
Mid- and long-term objectives:
- Assist in the revitalization and industrial development of cultural and historical areas
- Connect with international social practice and development organizations
- Consolidate social practice methods and partners and create strategies
- Provide social practice courses and research scholarships
- Translate and reconstruct knowledge systems
