NSYSU’s USR-B project “Kaohsiung Studies/Participatory University Museum Partnerships (PUMP)” extends its scope to the coast on both sides of Kaohsiung harbor, covering the areas from Cijin to Hamasen and Yancheng, and further down to Cianjhen and Si-Shihjia, which form a triangular landscape of practice. Around the project themes of “cultural and ecological landscape”, “soundscape of community residents”, and “the island of knowledge vision”, the University adopts a Participatory University-Museum Partnerships (PUMP) approach to collectively construct the local knowledge system for “Kaohsiung Studies” through field research, cultural preservation, and local knowledge. Then, the local knowledge is passed down and carried forward by means of community participation, collaborative teaching, arts exhibitions, and creative promotion. We expect to nurture multidisciplinary talents equipped with competence of cultural and social care, local knowledge, and capability of transmitting and exhibiting local culture. They may then join the local museums and work on the planning and coordination of elements for local exhibitions and performances, thereby bringing vitality to the place and forming a cycle of common good for placemaking.
